“I saw the angel in the marble
and carved until I set him free."

Keith Abney

Keith has always been involved in the arts. He is originally from Ringgold, Georgia, a small town where his grandfather was a well-known artist, gifted in scenic painting. Keith’s own interest started in performing arts. As he grew older, however, he found his tendencies swayed him toward painting.

After attending school at the University of Tennessee, his art career flourished. In the early 90’s, Keith lived in Miami and sold large paintings at outdoor venues. Eventually, he moved to New York and painted for several galleries. After a couple of years, he moved closer to home where he currently resides in Atlanta, and paints in his own studio.

Keith Abney creates multi-layered abstracts and architectural cityscapes. Collectors are intrigued by his sensitivity to rich color and texture. Keith begins his painting process in pencil. He uses both acrylic and oil paint in the sub-layers and he incorporates various textures into the paint. Generally, a layer of varnish or polyurethane is added to add a slick, sophisticated sheen and depth to the piece. He finishes the painting, just as he starts it: he carves out various shapes and forms with pencil.
