Maria Johnson

The paintings of artist Maria Johnson “MaJo” reflect the influence of vivid colors and forms of Latin American art but with a unique style that is given only by the experiences and romanticism of the artist. All of her oils on canvas have a common intensity of color, continuous lines adventuring out of the canvas and the serenity of smooth strokes.

Born in the Caribbean Coast of Colombia to a family of artists, MaJo could not help but inherit their talent. The best recollections of her childhood are the beautiful landscapes that her father painted . She remembers how disciplined he was and how some works took years to complete.

MaJo remember being in many painting contests from very early age. By her teenage years she was selling small sketches and pastels on paper. Throughout this time her obsession was visiting local exhibits with her younger sister who also shares her talent.

Her art has been exhibited in Kansas, Missouri, Florida, Louisiana and Virginia. She now lives in Leawood, Kansas.
