George Jones

Brought home from the hospital in a Christmas stocking on Christmas Day, George Hill Jones was born in Dallas on Dec. 23, 1956. He was destined to have a playful spirit. He was destined to be an artist. George has been drawing and painting ever since he was sent to the principal’s office in the first grade for drawing the Beatles!

Art is his passion. When it comes to painting, no size is too large. As a man of 6’5” in stature, George prefers to work large and his style is more suited to bigger canvases. The majority of George’s works are 30” x 40” or larger, which lend well to his bold, gutsy application of heavy paint layers in combination of brush and palette knife technique. Juxtiposing muted with bold and high contrast colors, along with his palette knife “sculpting,” George creates a 3-dimensional, high impact experience for the viewer.

Starting with a simple subject, George builds his color palette and layer by layer, a painting is born. His paintings are positive and meant for people to view and feel good about the world around them. The artist’s intent is to inspire people and give them a very optimistic and upbeat mood after viewing his work. “I want my work to reach out to people and just make them happy. There is way too much sadness in the world. I believe most people are looking for things that will bring them up to a better place and mood, or perhaps, help them escape from their daily lives for just a while.”

As a graduate of University of Texas in Austin, George received a degree in advertising in 1980. There he also studied art history as well as various styles of art. George’s style has evolved over his 30 plus years as an artist. From his tightly rendered pencil drawings of western cowboys to his current wildly colorful, freely expressive and sometimes whimsical paintings…George enjoys the full gamut.

George Hill Jones’ work has been enjoyed and collected across the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. He is represented in galleries across the country. Former Vice President, Dan Quail, and 5 of his advisors are among the list of collectors.
