“I saw the angel in the marble
and carved until I set him free."
— Michelangelo
Wilfred

Born in 1954 into an artistic family from Shanghai, Wilfred started creating watercolor paintings at the age of seven. After learning traditional painting from his father, he attended art schools in China and in Hong Kong where he began his modern contemporary work. Since 1977, Wilfred has been traveling and exhibiting his work in Hawaii, New York, Hong Kong and Europe. Recently, Amsterdam has become his second home, functioning as the gateway to bring his art to the world.

Wilfred's work contains elements of both Eastern and Western culture and inspiration. He turned to abstract representation by transforming themes of human figures, birds, tree branches and rocks into linear configurations and planes or even without designated forms. Rich colors, free brushwork and the natural flow and dripping of paint explore the quality of the medium to create a direct dialogue with the viewers.

Wilfred's artwork has been widely exhibited and collected by various public and private institutions throughout the world.
